1st COMMUNITY ACCESS CHALLENGE – A COMMUNITY CHARRETTE
The Canadian Post-Secondary Access Partnership is excited to announce its 1st Community Access Challenge! Get involved. Get inspired. Get creative. Build a Team and participate in a unique and stimulating experience. This is your opportunity to make a real impact on your community.
Over two-thirds of jobs today require some level of higher education, and that number is rising. Yet many Canadians don't go on to post-secondary education, whether because of career indecision, social pressure, lack of information about opportunities or due to financial constraints. Barriers to post-secondary studies exist in the communities of many Canadian cities and towns. But these are barriers that can be addressed by empowering youth and adults with the information and mentoring they need to choose, plan and prepare for post-secondary studies. If you are concerned about post-secondary access in your community and feel that action is needed, then this challenge is for you.
While many communities in Canada face these issues, every community has its unique barriers and opportunities. No one knows them better than you, and so we challenge you and members of your community to come together and help ensure that young people and adults have the advanced training they need to compete in a changing workforce. A community-driven solution is needed, and the Canadian Post-Secondary Access Partnership is prepared to help.
The Canadian Post-Secondary Access Partnership offers a variety of tools to help improve post-secondary access: the Gap Analysis Toolkit and Community Self-Assessment Handbooks are a great place to start learning about how to set up services that break down barriers and encourage access to higher education for all age groups in your community. You can learn how to implement these tools in your community, and how to build on them to create new solutions uniquely tailored for your community's needs. Join us to learn how in the 1st Community Access Challenge taking place in parallel with the Prepared Minds, Prepared Places Conference.
We are looking for community champions who are interested in:
- Forming a charrette team
- Participating in the 1st Community Access Challenge
- Committing to bring the resulting proposals for action back to their communities
